Jet boats are propelled by a jet of water which is ejected from the back of the craft. In a powerboat/motorboat there is a propeller in the water below or behind the boat, but in a jet boat the water from under the boat is sucked by a pump-jet which then expels the same with a great speed through a nozzle at the stern.
